Getting Braces A Life Turning Feel

(Advice from a Teenage Survivor Of Heavy Metal)

Getting braces is a huge event in a person's life especially if you're a teenager. I grew up on Long Island in Suffolk County and became conscious due to a pronounced overbite i faced in pre teens only when my permenet teeth came up. In 5th and 6th grade my nick name became "Bucky Beaver" and I was teased quite often. Due to my silent nature it was like a torture to me. At age 10, teeth straightening became my focus; I started following my mother around the house, moping and begging. Any how I wanted to have dental supports. Begging to my mother fro 2 years finally she agreed and took me to Orthodontist. It was very disheartening when doctor told me to wait for more 3 years , till 15.

I donned nickname like Bucky Beaver due to the tinsel teeth and survived with metal braces and rubber bands over it in my high school with many more innovative names. It wasn't until I completed my first year of college did my braces come off. It was truly a very joyous time for me. It was really exciting to have a confident sparkling smile on face with straight teeth since childhood. It was great to not have the very heavy social burden of buck teeth or braces. On that day I felt like a bird.

Since my experiences with dental braces there has been much advancement in the art and science of straightening teeth. Several years ago a new system of invisible braces were developed for adults called Invisalign. They are designed for each person from a custom impression made of their teeth. From the impression custom aligners are designed and manufactured. The new crystal clear braces could be worn for 20 - 22 hours a day and can be removed while brushing and flossing. As they require a check on them hence you have to visit your dentist in 2 weeks for the new set of teeth. The whole process usually takes only one year!

Currently, my niece, also growing up on Long Island, needs to get it. Up until recently her only option (many years after my experience) was also to get a mouth full of heavy metal, as the new clear braces were only available for adults. I think god answered my prayers and soon the clear braces for teens came up. Invisalign recently announced that "Invisalign for Teens" was now available. This time Braces for teens came up with a concept of an extra pair of it incase some youngsters loose it).

Invisible braces are not the solution for all orthodontic conditions. A consultation with Invisalign dentist will help you know whether this is for you. Its works very well to have straight teeth.

Some words of advice from a teenage survivor of old fashioned bracesWhether you are a teen or a parent of a teen, they are a life changing experience.

People who want to have it just believe that metal braces is not permanent treatment). And if you're a lucky candidate for Invisalign, it should be a relatively easy experience. It may took me long time of 4 years but the self confidence was indeed life changing phenomenon. The result of patience is sweet so despite clear or unclear braces wait as the new energetic smile and glory is worth every second!
