When you are considering of developing a career in marketing, you will have to face the problem of speaking in public. This happens no matter if you are a sales agent, a negotiator, a public relations responsible or even the CEO of a company. You will often have to dialogue with people you have never met before in your life and since marketing is all about persuasion, you have to convince those people that you are offering something valuable to them.
Unfortunately, there is this little state of mind called anxiety which will often prevent you from saying the right words (in some cases, from saying anything at all). Anxiety is nothing else than unjustified fear of something which is not based on real fact. To be anxious means to be afraid of the unknown. Anxiety is important and helpful as long as it is manifested at low levels. Without a bit of anxiety we would all be out there trying to tame lions. It is as natural as the survival instinct and it help us tell the difference between what is safe and what is dangerous.
There are different gestures that will betray a person suffering from excessive anxiety. For example, you can tell when someone is anxious from the facial expression. The body's position and the hand movement can also betray you when you are anxious. People which are nervous will use different objects to play with like a pen or pencil or whatever they can find in handy. Heavy breathing and sweating can also be signs of anxiety. You can also pay attention to one's voice and figure out if he or she is too nervous. In other words, there is a thin line between the anxiety which manifests itself in some critical moments and the anxiety which becomes part of the human personality.
