subject: Brow Lift: Things You Need To Know Before You Opt For This Surgery [print this page]

For many people, a brow lift would reduce the appearance of aging and therefore help give them the look they want. This is because wrinkles that typically appear on and around the forehead with age are not flattering on most people. Plastic surgery can fix the issue by smoothing out the area, but learning about such a procedure before committing to it is advised.

While a brow lift cannot get rid of other issues that come with aging like crow's feet, puffy eyes, or under eye circles, it can certainly improve the look of the eyebrows and forehead. Removal of the muscles used to crinkle the area, which results in wrinkles, is the main component of this operation. There are two main types of this operation.

One of the options includes cutting near the hairline to remove the muscles needed to make the wrinkles. However, the less invasive and recently popular surgery is the endoscopic method, which involves making a few tiny incisions to elevate the brows and forehead.

This is possible through the use of a tiny camera, or endoscope, which is inserted under the incisions so that the doctor can easily see what he or she is doing. Because the cuts are smaller than in most surgeries, this type takes less time to recover from.

Not everyone has an endoscopic brow lift simply because not everyone is a good candidate. Just like many other surgeries, you need to be in good general health and have realistic expectations for the procedure. If you do qualify for the surgery, you should have an idea of the recovery time involved.

You can expect the pain involves in an endoscopic brow lift to be minimal. You might either feel numb in the forehead area or feel slight itching right after the surgery, and there will be some bruising and swelling for about ten days.

The stitches can be removed in about a week, and you can use cold compresses to reduce swelling. While vigorous activity should be avoided for several weeks, you can return to your regular life within a few days as long as you take it easy.

Smoothing out your forehead with a brow lift can make a big difference in your appearance, but it does involve surgery. You will likely learn everything you need to know at the consultation with your doctor, but doing your own research first will help you know what to expect. Some independent research might also help you decide if you really want to have the procedure at all.
