subject: Seven Steps To Info Marketing Success (Part 1) by:Neil Asher [print this page] Let me give you a little plan here, a quick little blueprint or outline, for getting started in information products. I am going to take you through what I consider to be the seven basic steps that you are going to want to take when you start an online business.
Step #1: Make a commitment to act. Make a decision that you are going to act. Settle it in your mind that you're really going to do it. You're going to become a Modern Guru. You're going to start an information product publishing business. You've got to make the decision. Nobody else can make it for you. You've got to commit to yourself that you are going to do it. You know that you can become a teacher. You already know that you want to write a book and teach. Just make the decision. I am getting through to you, right? Your first step must necessarily be to make the decision and commit to yourself to do it.
Step #2: You need to choose a niche to start an online business. Choose a narrow niche. As I have said before, you need to select a niche that meets all the criteria of the three-question test: 1) make sure that there's an emotional need; 2) make sure that your target market is pro-actively looking for solutions; and 3) make sure that there aren't a lot of perceived options. Just keep narrowing the niche and refining it until you get "yes's" to those three questions.
Step #3: Get started. I want you to start a blog or an e-mail newsletter. The blog is the simplest. Just go to Blogger or Wordpress. Get a free blog, and then start writing immediately. If you really want to get fancy, start an e-mail newsletter. Go to a site like GetResponse.com or IContact.com. Get a $10 or $20 a month e-mail newsletter list. Then, start writing and sending out e-mail newsletters. The point is that you want to create a place where you can start putting your content and developing your offers. You can start creating valuable information in your niche.
Step #4: Create content every single day. This is how you build up experience and expertise before you begin to make money online. You are going to create a blog post or an e-mail newsletter every day from now on. If you only do it five days a week, and take a couple of days off, that's fine. And you don't have to get too fancy here. You can read some other blogs to get ideas. Keep your eyes on the news. Read some books. Write a couple of paragraphs about a particular topic.
Let's say that your blog is going to be on getting out of debt. You can write a little blog, that's just two paragraphs, with just a quick simple idea on how to cut your debt payments in half. Or you can write a quick little negotiation strategy on how to reduce your interest rate. Or you can write a quick blog post about how to get creditors to stop calling you. Whatever it is, it's okay.
Everyday create a piece of content, and this starts getting you into the flow. You will be teaching yourself how to teach. You will be forcing yourself to develop self-contained ideas that people can understand modularly. You just need to get out that one piece and do it every day. That's how you build your strong Internet marketing muscles.
In Part 2, we'll cover the fifth step, creating your information product.
