subject: The Time Is Ripe For Information Marketing by:Neil Asher [print this page]

You know that expression about someone who "can't see the forest for the trees." I think it applies to a lot of people when it comes to the Internet. They can't see the information marketing opportunities for all the web sites.

There are some significant changes happening right now in the world of information marketing that most people are blind to. Whether those changes are noticed or ignored, they are making this moment, right now, the perfect time to start an information product business.

And these are not some passing trends or some small things that proponents of information marketing are trying to sensationalize. No, they are fundamental shifts in the way business is conducted, monumental changes that have never happened beforeever.

One of the biggest ones is that we're shifting away from a work economy centered on manual labor and towards what Peter Drucker has called a "knowledge economy." Instead of working with our hands, more and more we are working with our minds.

Drucker was really interesting. He was the ultimate management guru. He wrote dozens of books in the business world. He just might be the most famous of all management gurus. Decades ago, he pointed out that manual labor was on the way out. That includes building houses, making cars, mining, farming, and what have you. He foresaw a day when most work would be mental.

So now Drucker's vision is coming true all around us. We're starting to work with our heads. We're doing things like graphic design, computer programming, consulting and information marketing. We are turning blue collars into white collars in ever-increasing numbers.

I just read that in America, something like 70% of the workers can already be classified as knowledge workers. That's massive!

In fact, nothing like this has ever existed before in the history of humanity. It's changing the whole game. As our basic needs have been metour lower level needs for food, clothing and shelterthe majority of us are becoming free to work with our heads.

What's especially interesting about this shift to a knowledge economy is that more people want to learn things. Education is becoming a top priority. Greater value is being placed on mental skills and training, as opposed to physical skills.

This is where you, as an individual, actually have an advantage over large corporations. You can carve out a little information marketing niche, one that's extremely focused, and then pursue it like a laser beam. You can start a business earning $100,000 a year, or a million dollars a year, or whatever you want to make.

Large companies can't even afford to consider such small niches. They are unable to apply their big resources to tiny opportunities profitably. But because you're in that little niche, customers are going to like you better. They'll prefer working with you and buying from you. You're more focused, and you're talking specifically about what they want.

So now you have the advantage. You can change faster. You can create products faster. You can modify your marketing as needed. You can shift directions. For the first time, the individual has an advantage in the world of information, and that's coming about as a direct result of the Internet and the introduction of new technologies.

So those are two huge changes, right? There really hasn't been a time like this before. We're shifting to a knowledge economy, and individuals are better prepared than big corporations to take advantage of the shift through information marketing niches. Are you going to take advantage of this unique environment to start an online business in information marketing, or will you leave it to others to make money online? The choice and your future are up to you.
