Few things can compare to the freedom of taking a road trip. When you pack your bags, (or throw a bunch of stuff in the trunk) and take off, you immediately discover a new sense of self determination. You can discover new things about the area around your city, and clear out some cobwebs from your brain. Those that have gone on road trips know what this feels like. However, if you've never been out on the road for an extended time, then this article is for you. I'll give you a few great reasons to pack your bags and start moving. One popular time of year for long drives is the first thaw of spring. If you live in an area where outdoor activity is severely limited due to snow and freezing weather, then a trip on the road can be a great way to celebrate the return of the warm weather. Just like pagan societies of old would have huge festivals to celebrate the return of spring, you can do the same thing by picking a suitable destination, and spending a few days getting there. You'll experience the re-awakening of plants and animals like never before. Another great time for a road trip is when you are going through, or have just gone through, a significant life milestone, or a particularly difficult experience. College graduation, leaving one career and starting another one, or even a particularly difficult breakup, separation, or divorce can be a great opportunity to hit the road for an extended time to prepare yourself mentally for the new chapter in your life. When you have an otherwise less than exciting event, like the wedding of a cousin you've never met, or some business conference you must attend, going there by car can be a way to use the event as an excuse to get out on the road. You'll find that making it a destination rather than something on 'to do' list can make it seem more important in your mind. Relocation is another great reason to take an extended driving trip. Whether it's because of a job change, or simply because you're moving up in the world, taking some off between places of residence is a good way to clear your mind and prepare yourself for your new digs. Particularly if you have kids, moving from one house to another is made smoother by taking a few days in between. These are just a few reasons to pack up the trunk, and head out the door for a few days. These of course, are major reasons, but when you start thinking of your own, you'll be able to come up with all kinds of creative reasons to hit the road and have a blast.
