Everyone knows what a Hockey Visor is and I'm sure everyone has heard alot about mirrored hockey visors. Yeah these types of shields are quickly becoming the favorite for hockey players around the globe. This is in spite of the fact that there aren't too many pro players that are wearing them. Can you name one allstar hockey player in the NHL that wears a mirrored shield on his helmet? Its no secret that other players were having problems with this specific piece of hockey gear.
Mirrors are very reflective. That's why they are called mirrors! What can they be used to do? They can reflect light where ever you point them. On a professional level, should this type of behavior or advantage be tolerated. I personally don't and I'm pretty sure the NHL doesn't approve of this either.
I love my hockey gear, and i'm sure I would love a visor that protects my eyes. Imagine if you were using this for years and then told you could not use it anymore. You wouldn't want to be told you can't use abec 9 bearings or swiss bearings would you? The bottom line is that it can be used for an illegal advantage and make play impossible. Hockey stick blades are regulated in a similar way.
I think it goes without saying that any time a piece of gear like this comes along, something will have to be done about it. Most people and players would probably agree with me. I'm sure goalies would most certainly have my back on this one. Maybe hockey players that have worn this for years and are comfortable with it won't be too happy of my opinion though. Remember, in hockey there are a bunch of alternatives out there. There is way too much hockey equipment to choose from and there are still many types of visors out there that a hockey player can buy..
