Picture this. It's 8:00 PM. You have a customer sitting on your website with a tiny little question. The answer to this question is going to be the "straw the breaks the camels back", and determines if that customer is going to buy your product or not.
He looks around your website, he needs help. He looks for a way to contact you. He sees a phone number and thinks, "I don't want to sit on hold forever and it's 8:00 so I will probably just get and answering machine".
He sees a "contact us" form. The customer thinks to himself, "I want to know now, I don't want to wait 5 days for someone to get back with me".
Then suddenly it happens...Your customer leaves your site. You were a meager "Yes, we have it in blue" away from sealing the deal. Too bad, it's too late. Your customer is gone to another website that shows they have a blue one.
Why in the world would you spend all your time, money, and effort to bring a visitor to your website, just to have them bounce away because they couldn't get instant gratification.
Your customer has no loyalty to your website. They are not going to wait around for you to get back with them. Why do you think so many grocery stores are open all night?
Don't get me wrong, some customers will leave a message and wait for your response, but a lot of them won't. And for a small amount of effort on your part, you can address their concerns and help close more sales.
Isn't that the whole idea of selling online is anyway?
