Little Prince was a darling little caf in the heart of Tel Aviv, Israel. Located off busy King George Street it was a welcome retreat from the craziness of the city. Check out my ode to the little prince in blog form at (http://tastetlv.blogspot.com/2010/11/quiet-place-in-chaotic-tel-aviv.html) It was my favorite spot to hang out and work from my computer for Taste TLV.
Now my friends and I have to find a stand-in for our beloved Tel Aviv restaurant. The following are candidates for our new spot.
Dizi
Ben Ami 13
Dizi is a caf/laundromat just off Dizengoff square. I make a trip there every week for my laundry needs, but it also offers some nice food, a chill atmosphere, and the all important wifi connection. I often curl up with a book on their comfy couch as I wait for my laudry to be finished but I could just as easily work from there. The people in Dizi are friendly and it is not uncommon to strike up a conversation with a stranger, perhaps it's the fact that we can see eachother's intimates coming out of the dryer that makes everyone feel close. The convience of the laudry services and the nice people make Dizi a good option for our new place to work and hang out.
The Streets

The Streets is a caf/bar across the street from Dizengoff Center. During the day and into the night it is full of people typing away on their laptops. Because it is open all night It is a great place to go if you need to get some work done after hours. Recently I spent a night reminiscent of my college years, downing coffee and working on an article past midnight. The feel of The Streets is cozy. It has various nooks with couches so you can get really intimate with your work. You can spend hours nursing a coffee or pot of tea and working at The Streets so it might be a good candidate for the new spot.
Sonya's
Almonit 1
Sonya's is a precious little caf across the alley from the former Little Prince. At first glance it looks tiny because you can only see the indoor part from the street. However, if you venture through to the backyard you find yourself in an enchanting courtyard evocative of the Secret Garden. It is a truly romantic setting. I went there for a drink last night and the courtyard smelled of lavender and had shimmering candles on every table. Upon our arrival, my roommate and I were handed complimentary cups of tea. The infusion was perfect to warm us up on the cool December night. It is also lovely there during the day and they have a good secelection of snacks to sustain you while you are working. Sonya's is perfect for a romantic date but also works as a great work spot.
There are countless other Tel Aviv restaurants and cafes with wireless connections in the vacinity of King George. I will have to keep trying them out one by one and see if there is another cafe comparable to Little Prince. Even If I do find another spot I am not sure that it could replace Little Prince in my heart.
