Letters Home from Puerto Vallarta
Letters Home from Puerto Vallarta

The art of letter writing may have lost some of its bloom in the face of online social networking, but every now and again, you come across folks (look right, then look to your left) who know in their hearts that tweets come from the throats of songbirds. These are the reckless ones who will book a Puerto Vallarta luxury villa rental before they find out if the place has wifi. Some of them, in fact, don't know wifi from deep center field. These are the heroes of the picture postcard. Drop a line . . .

Step into your personal way-back machine and try to remember the thrill of receiving a piece of mail, a letter or postcard, addressed to you and no one else. Visualize the colorful picture on the front and the fancy stamp on the back. Surely, there is someone in your address book (not to be confused with your email contact list) who deserves to feel that same emotional charge. Why not pick up a few cards with vibrant, lively pictures on the front and start scribbling about all the fun you're having in your Puerto Vallarta luxury villa rental . (FYI you're going to need a pen for this exercise.)

Here are some examples to give you an idea the kind of bits and pieces from your holiday that your kids/grandkids/neighbors will be happy to read. "Beautiful weather, sunny days and lovely evenings. We can see much of Banderas Bay from the balcony of our Puerto Vallarta luxury villa rental. Love to all . . ."

"We're eating our way through Puerto Vallarta last night, fresh seafood; tonight, authentic Mexican cuisine. Thank goodness for elastic; we'll diet later. Miss you . . ."

"This place is a blast. Yesterday we did a swing through the jungle on zip lines. Today, we're going to swim with dolphins. I hope they don't bite! Gotta go . . ." "You wouldn't believe all the beaches in Puerto Vallarta. There's one not far from our villa where you can [watch people/play beach volleyball/drink beer] all day long. I'm getting great tan lines. Hugs . . ."

A word to the wise for those young or young-at-heart creatures who have discovered the party side of life in Mexico: you'd be well advised to think twice about what you choose to share, so you don't end up right in the middle of TMI Land sooo awkward.
