Man Against Camera

A British motorist has launched a legal campaign to prove that speed camera do not work in extreme temperatures, after he feels he was wrongly fined for a speeding offence that he didn't commit.

He was flashed in February last year in Cambridge, when the weather was especially cold, and the ticket said that he had been doing forty one miles per hour when the limit is thirty. He maintains that he passes the camera every day on his journey to work, and his speedometer always shows that his speed is thirty miles per hour, in line with all the other drivers on the road.

He says that the cold temperature affects the timing circuit within the workings of the camera, meaning that the delay in the two images being produced is longer, giving the impression that the car has travelled further than it actually has. He has received expert advice to this end, proving that the camera cannot give an accurate reading if the temperature is above seventy degrees, or below freezing.

He believes that the case which is due to be heard at the Cambridge crown court could open up a floodgate of appeals against speed cameras from other road users who feel they have been wronged.

I'm nowhere near being a rich man but I don't mind how much this costs me because it is for a good cause, this is for all motorists. If I'm successful everyone will be at their crown court with speeding cases. Everyone will be able to appeal.'

If you are driving on Britain's roads, ensure that you have Car Insurance.
