The stunning Andalucia city of Ronda

Getting you to truly get a feel for the beauty of the Andalucian city of Ronda without the use of images is not easy as it is a dramatic location perched high up in the mountains above the Costa del Sol.

Ronda is a city that has seen so many important events over the centuries and if a town could talk it would have so much to tell us. Located some 740 metres above sea level it is one of the few locations on the Costa del Sol to experience regular heavy snowfalls each winter.

Before you arrive to the city of Ronda the image you see on the approach to the famous stone bridge is something that will stay with you forever. This city is heavily influenced by the Moors who once occupied it for centuries with some stunning architecture throughout the entire city.

There are many different areas to visit within Ronda such as the Arab Baths and of course the bridge which was even once a prison during the Franco era. Adjacent to the bridge is a Parador hotel which is located within a very regal looking building and is an ideal place to eat with magnificent views across the deep valley below.

As well as being swathed in history Ronda is still a very important residential and commercial city with a large shopping area and industrial section. Although Ronda is way up in the mountains and only accessed via some of the most winding roads, it is actually under 50kms from the coast. There is talk of a project to build a straight road from the coast up to Ronda which will mean a much quicker journey and will undoubtedly mean even greater amounts of tourism for the city.

If you are visiting the Costa del Sol you might not want to venture up to Ronda during the winter as it is wet, cold and even icy.
