Just a few short months ago in Boston, Infiniti G Coupe drivers were given an early Christmas present when they got wind of a new performance line rumored to be joining Infiniti's already luxurious line up. The performance line was reported to be Infiniti's answer to other performance lines such as Mercedes-Benz' AMG or Cadillac's CTS-V, a souped up version of its CTS model.
Well, the first model in Infiniti's IPL line, which creatively stands for Infiniti Performance Line, is due out this December, just in time for Christmas. The 2011 IPL G Coupe, a "bettered" version of the G Coupe, offers 348-horsepower, a 3.7-liter V6, sport-tuned suspension, steering gear and high-glow dual exhaust, along with a few other improvements that justify the increased price-tag.
However, Infiniti has been careful to point out that their IPL line is not intended to rival other luxury car brand's performance lines, such as the ones mentioned above. Infiniti is looking to offer those consumers who want to drive an Infiniti that has a little more oomph, if you will, just that. Along with this fact, Infiniti is quick to point out that they too could produce a performance version of the G Coupe that could rival the top of the Mercedes-Benz AMG line, but then they would have to price the vehicle right next to the AMG. Instead, Infiniti has kept its performance vehicles, at least so far, in the $50 thousand range.
In fact, Infiniti Vice President Ben Poore said of the IPL Line, "The Infiniti Performance Line is designed to push the premium performance envelope for buyers seeking a higher level of exclusivity and driving exhilaration. IPL promises unique driving attributes from other Infiniti models, without adding stratospheric prices."
And now Infiniti has announced another vehicle that will soon grace the streets of Boston. Infiniti G Coupe IPL will also be manufactured in convertible form. The 2011 IPL G Convertible debuted at the Paris Auto Show earlier this fall. Although still in concept form, the IPL G Convertible sported the same IPL-tuned V6 engine, exhaust and suspension as its sister vehicle, the IPL G Coupe, does. The drop-top utilizes a three-piece retractable hardtop that can easily adjust as quickly as the weather can in Boston. In addition, the IPL G Convertible was decked out in 19-inch IPL aluminum-alloy wheels and sexy red leather-appointed interior only fitting for the fashion capitol of the world.
But for now in Boston, Infiniti FX drivers longing to grace the roads with something a little more nimble than the FX will have to be patient. There is no word yet from Infiniti as to when the IPL G Convertible will be available, (although they did title it a 2011 at the Paris Auto Show for what that's worth). Even more unknown is whether or not one could ever see, in Boston, Infiniti FX IPL models. Likely Infiniti will wait to see how successful their first round of IPL models are. Again, Infiniti enthusiasts will just have to wait patiently.
