subject: Stun Guns-why They Are So Popular [print this page]

Stun guns are next to pepper sprays in terms of overall popularity worldwide as a self defense product. Why are they so popular? The simple answer is they work. The next time you see a law enforcement officer look and you'll see a pepper spray and some kind of stun device. How's that work for a testament?

Stun guns were invented back in the 1930s and got their start as a cattle prod used to move cattle along. They are one of a group of products called self defense products whose only purpose is to get you away from a dangerous situation by temporarily incapacitating an assailant and allowing you time to get help.

They are hand held devices that use low amperage and high-voltage. The guns actually have two prongs on one end that conduct an electrical charge that when applied to an assailants body causes his muscles to do a great deal of work rapidly. This depletes the assailants blood sugars so he has no energy left making his body unable to function properly. A stun gun when applied also interrupts the nerve impulses that control and direct voluntary muscle movement so the assailant loses his balance.

The stunner does not rely on pain to produce results. And when you apply the electrical charge to the assailant the current will not pass through to your body. The results can last anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes.

The next time you think about getting a self defense product to defend yourself, think about getting a stun gun. There is a reason why they are so popular and law enforcement officers everywhere carry them.

When are you getting one?

If you think crime can only happen to the other guy you are wrong. The "other guy" is thinking the same thing and to him you are that "other guy". There is a reason why they call it self defense. You have to protect yourself, your family, your home and business!!

Chances are if you are reading this that crime has touched your life in some way or you consider yourself at risk. Take the next step and do something to protect yourself! Your life and safety is worth far more than the cost of self defense course.

If you are in the market for a self defense product look for quality, effectiveness, and a biggie-LEGALITY. Stun guns are not legal in some states. Pepper sprays have restrictions in some jurisdictions. Check with your local police department first before you get one.
