Chevrolet dealers are excited to get this whole movement underway, but the costs of the charging stations are what may scare both them and consumers. While $590 doesn't seem like a whole lot, when you factor in another $1,475 for installation you're coming pretty darn close to two grand. You're going to have to commit to driving an all-electric vehicle for quite a while to make that worth the price. How long would it take to spend $2,000 in gas, right?
On the bright side, the Chevrolet system is estimated to be about $200 less than the home charging system Nissan is planning on putting out, but beyond that it just would be nice to never really have to go to a gas station ever again. You just come home and plug the new Volt into the charging station for about four hours, and you're good to go the next day. No more being late for work because you left at the usual time forgetting your tank was on E. Yes, they're an expensive one-time item, but home chargers are going to make your life so much easier, and the clean cars are going to make the environment so much happier.
