Although many people are now noting the looming death of the written word in paper because of the advent of the virtual technology that apparently replaces the conventional means of communication, a recent study shows that our good old paper is still the reliable one amid everything that technology brings.
In a study that aims to determine the best reading platform among the famous Apple's iPad, Amazon's Kindle and of course the conventional paper and pen, they found out that reading from paper or the printed book is a faster experience as compared to reading an e-book via iPad or Kindle.
The study is conducted by Jakob Nielsen of the Nielsen Norman Group.
Utilizing the participants of the said 24-user study, they also found out that majority of the users are still more comfortable in reading the conventional printed copy of the book as compared to using these electronic devices. According to them, these electronic devices remind them of work making them feel stressed and uneasy.
This study once again proves the efficiency of paper in communication debunking further claims that someday the paper will be obsolete and will be irrelevant in the human lifestyle. Despite the fact that man has been in constant fascination with how computer could make our life easier and that the human mind has always been wandering on ways to improve our everyday routing by making all information accessible in the World Wide Web, paper and pen would never vanish.
The study also implies that by the time everything will be manipulated and controlled through computers, we will also be looking on everything that reminds us of work, of deadlines and our life's stressors. Our world, in contrary, would not be a pleasant place to live in because we find no space for relaxation.
Vanishing paper in our human existence is more of vanishing our favorite comfort food and we are all programmed to take a pill that is believed to supply us with all the vitamins and nutrients that we need. Having everything computerized and leaving no space for the black and white could actually take the fun and excitement out of life. We would be like robots fueled by gas and several program languages.
Just imagine how life would be if you need an electronic platform every time you wanted to read a newspaper, a book or even your school handout. Imagine how lack of electricity could cripple our daily routine and task just because we relied on it too much.
