Its been over a week and still the xbox kinect remains sold out.The xbox kinect is still on everyones radar.All the talk is mostly negative.For all the hype that was put up over the kinects release it sure did fade fast. We are one month in and the kinect is gone, possibly til after Christmas. How could they not have planned for this?
Of course there is a few people who have a different view on this.No shortage of xbox is planned says Microsofts Xbox manager in the UK and Ireland.The goal is to sell 5 million Xbox Kinect by the end of this year; there won't be any planned shortage any time soon.
With the xbox being sold out for a week now that statement seems rather ammusing.How gullible do they think we are? Selling 2.5 million is far short of their projection of 5 million units sold by the end of the year.You can call me crazy but generally when a company makes a projection like, 5 million units sold by the end of the year, that company would be wise to be prepared to do exactally that.Would this be the usual strategy of creating a feeding frenzy that we are so used to every Christmas? It is working though so we cant get to upset.
The world awaits the return of the kinect to our local stores. So is this a brilliant marketing strategy or a sleazy business practice?I would have to say that it's both.
This strategy is nothing new, we see it every Christmas. Running out of the hottest gift of the season is nothing new for us. Then at the last minute, all of a sudden, they will find a giant warehouse that just happened to be filled with xbox kinect and everybody in the company will act like they are heroes for finding this and saving our Christmas.
Its also a very sleazy and selfish act.What do they think they are doing to the price of the kinect? If you were to go onto ebay right now I bet your could easily find the xbox kinect.You are going to be paying a lot more for it though.Merchants know that you will fork out the money to get the hottest toy for you child.
Currently we are in an economic crisis and the unemployment rate is still at an all time high. This means a lot of people have to dig very deep this Christmas in order to get gifts for their loved ones. The gift that their loved ones want is the xbox kinect. So what do you do? Pay the increased price or wait and see if the mystery warehouse is found in time?
I have decided to wait. If I want to play my games, I guess I should let Microsoft play theirs.
