subject: Tennessee Titans Tickets - Could Young Still Be Future Of Titans? [print this page]

The first half of the 2009 season has been more than a little shocking for the Tennessee Titans. After holding out to become the last undefeated team of 2008, they returned in 2009 and can't seem to grab a win. Their 0-6 start has had coaches examining every part of the game. This gloomy start, however, yielded a glimmer of hope for one Titan: quarterback Vince Young.

Even before Young was a well-known name in the NFL he was a famous star at the University of Texas, and before he was a Longhorn he was one of the most celebrated high school athletes in Texas. While playing for UT, he helped lead the team to the BCS National Championship. When he entered the league in 2006, Vince Young was one of the brightest prospects coming into the NFL, and few were surprised when the Tennessee Titans picked him up in the first round with the third overall pick. Before he had even taken a professional snap, the Titans had big plans for him.

Vince Young was a captivating quarterback as he added the ability to run to his accurate arm. His first season with the Titans, he started 13 out of the 15 games he played in, racking up 2,199 passing yards, 12 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. More impressively, he had 83 rushing attempts for 552 yards and seven touchdowns, earning him the title of Associated Press NFL Rookie of the Year. He returned the next season and started all 15 games he played in, tallying 2,546 passing yards, nine passing touchdowns, 17 interceptions, 93 rushing attempts, 395 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.

It looked as if Young had cemented his place as the Titans' starter, but then tragedy hit in 2008. He injured his knee during the first game of the season against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Kerry Collins stepped in as his replacement and the Titans started winning. Because of their winning ways, the Titans declined reinstating Young as a starter even when he was cleared to play.

Young went through some personal struggles following the injuries, which included an incident where the police were sent to look for him after he left his house without his cell phone. Fans seemed to have lost confidence in him, and sitting on the bench didn't seem to help. During the offseason, he was dealt another personal blow when his mentor and former Titan Steve McNair was murdered.

Young made the decision to move on, and he even stepped in to be there for McNair's young sons. With the Titans starting the season winless, he also got another chance to start during Week Eight against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He led the team to their first victory of the season by topping the Jaguars 30-13. In that game, he was 15-of-17 for 125 yards, one touchdown, no interceptions and a passer rating of 114.1. The rest of the team rallied around him, as well, showing that Young's story could be starting a whole new chapter. Fans can see him this season with Tennessee Titans tickets.
