Jobs on the I.T Market on the Increase
Jobs on the I.T Market on the Increase

With Britain in a seemingly endless recession, many Brits have either lost their jobs or are unable to attain the career they originally wanted. However, a career in I.T is still very viable

Why I.T?

As we become more reliant on computers in the business environment, there has been a need for more and more I.T professionals. Even though the recession persists, the field of I.T is still growing at a very fast rate indeed and by the magazine I.T Training's reckoning there are going to be around 110,000 jobs available per year. These jobs will be up on the higher and lower tiers, making plenty of jobs for individuals retraining, graduates, students and experienced professionals.

However, there are a few problems within the I.T field. First of all, there is a deficit of University trained I.T professionals and even certified young professionals. Secondly, retraining is often costly to the individual and thirdly, due to training cut back there is a massive skills gap. With this in mind, the I.T field needs skilled and talented staff that not only has technical skills, but managerial, communication and business skills to.

Yet on the other hand, a career in I.T is generally quite well paid and the prospects are currently better than any other field. Moreover, there are hundreds of different paths in I.T, which are suited to everybody's unique talents.

Training

To train all the staff needed for this job deficit, a number of strategies have been put in place. Government funding has been channeled through the Skills Funding Agency in order to allow those who cannot normally (due to circumstances) participate in training programs to get certified. Through this agency, you can get access to funding for your first level 2 or 3 qualification, careers advice and professional development loans. Training providers have also linked up with certain businesses to provide top quality training to their staff. Lastly, the Time To Train initiative has allowed employees to take time off in order to train. Currently, you are legally allowed to request time to train if you are in a business where there are 250 or more employees, but by next year, this rule shall be extended to all corporations and businesses of all sizes.

Computer based training is another alternative. It is relatively cheap compared to fully classroom taught courses and the ultimate advantage is that you can learn in your own time frame and in your own home. From computer based training, you can learn from generalist right down to specialist subjects in the vast variety of fields. For the creative individual, look towards adobe training courses and for the talented organizer and manger, opt for a Microsoft training program. But if you are a highly practical or vocational person, go for a computer technician certification.
