If you stop to think about it for a moment, college administrators are an integral part of what helps to make a university run smoothly. Whether they are helping students get into their classes or offering advice or information on scholarships or other forms of financial aid, college administrators need to make sure that they are always as organized as they can be.
When talking specifically about grant tracking software, we are talking about the programs that administrators use in order to ensure that all finances, business expenses and other non-entities are accounted for. This is helpful when audits are performed throughout the calendar year. Prior to the invention of grant tracking software, it was significantly more difficult for university administrators to keep track of finances. However, it should also be noted that years ago, universities saw far less students and faculty enrolled per school year when compared to the numbers that they are looking at today.
With the economy in the middle of a recession, more and more people are looking towards going to college as a way to either kill time until things turn around; or they are looking at it as a way to beef up current skills or acquire a new set of skills while they wait to seek out a better job fit for themselves.
Faculty trips, student research, research assistants, grant research- all of these things require funding that usually comes from within the university system. And for each dollar amount that is doled out and/or received back, there must be a system in place that will account for all of the spending. Even something as small as buying supplies for an office must be documented and accounted for. Keeping track of such items helps the university to be accountable for all of its actions and also aids in helping the college to run smoothly. We owe a great debt of gratitude to university administrators for keeping everything organized as well as a sense of appreciation for the current technology that is being utilized to help them accomplish this goal.
