As an Indian Gay man it is very difficult to find a suitable Gay partner to live with. Even though society is slowly getting more and more accepting of our community, it is not as simple as it seems. Over time, families accept our sexuality and understand what it means to have a queer family member. However as every gay man in India, coming out of the closet is a big issue. A lot of my friends who I thought would stand by me when I came out, disappeared into the woodwork. I never heard back from some very close friends. I guess however this happens with any individual coming out in the world, irrespective of where they are.
My family has learnt to accept me for who I am. My mother seems to accept me the best, however my father has not taken to this at well at all. My coming out has even brought about a few strained family ties. All said and done however, I am happy I came out. Feels like a burden lifted off my shoulder. The issue came however when I moved out and tried to find a roomate.
