An American tourist (Depp) is used by an English lady (Jolie) in an attempt to flush out a legal with whom she once had an affair. Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, the director of the film was quoted saying in an interview: "It is a love story, that's for sure. Think about a girl who is simply so elegant and complex and educated and has lived in that world and now, via a complete set of circumstances, immediately falls in love with a man who isn't any of those issues, and it just somehow confuses her entire world as a result of that was not meant to happen. She had all of it worked out, she had this grand grasp plan, and neither he nor she had thought it potential that they would fall in love with every other. Plot: Frank (Depp) is an American vacationer visiting Italy to fix a broken heart. Elise (Jolie) is a rare girl who intentionally crosses his path to be able to mislead all those following her former lover, Alexander Pearce, a prison wished in fourteen countries who has stolen cash from a gangster (Berkoff) and is being pursued by an agent (Bettany). In opposition to the breathtaking backdrop of Venice, Frank attempts to forge a potential romance but soon finds himself a target as he and Elise are caught in a whirlwind of intrigue and danger. Manufacturing: The challenge went by plenty of directorial changes. Originally the film was set with Lasse Hallstrom but he left over scheduling conflicts. Then Bharat Nalluri came on however later left. When Jolie accepted her role, so did Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck but he left over "creative differences" along with Sam Worthington. After many names had been mooted, including Alfonso Cuaron, Donnersmarck returned. Tom Cruise was originally going to play the lead position but was changed by Sam Worthington. Johnny Depp then replaced Worthington. Charlize Theron was, at one level, set to play Jolie's role. Filming began in Paris with Angelina Jolie, on 23 February 2010 and moved to Venice, the place Johnny Depp joined the production, on March 1.
