Edinburgh, Scotland- In Scotland, New Year's Eve is part of a traditional celebration called Hogmanay, which lasts four days. In Edinburgh, that means 4 days of music, drinking and other celebrations, starting on December 30th. Highlights include a torchlight procession through the city, a street party and a midnight rendition of "Old Lang Syne."
Berlin, Germany- German beer and what Berlin claims is the biggest open-air party in the world-need I say more?
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: New Year's Eve on Rio's Copacabana beach is an all-night party with a massive fireworks display over the ocean. It's traditional to wear white for good luck! Make sure you obtain a Brazilian visa before you travel.
Niagara Falls, Canada: The Canadian side of the Falls is the best place to see the Winter Festival of Lights and the New Year's Eve firework display. You can either stay at a hotel on the Canadian side, or stay on the New York side and drive across for the New Year's Eve celebrations.
Reykjavik, Iceland: For New Year's Eve, the citizens of Reykjavik light up the Arctic winter with lots of bonfires and fireworks.
