Self Awareness Is The First Step To Building Self Discipline

Personal development and self growth involves a fare degree of self discipline, after all, the subject matter involves acting in accordance with what you think instead of being controlled by your emotions.

Self discipline is often associated with sacrifice and delaying immediate gratification and pleasure to achieve longer term objectives or life goals that are more fulfilling.

We have all experienced times in our life when we haven't had the self discipline necessary to achieve what we have set out to it. Success rarely happens in a straight line. We learn our mistakes through failure and, sometimes, failure can be associated with a lack of self discipline. The lack of revision for an important exam or the lack of preparation for an important client meeting or ,perhaps , we have fallen prey to our addictions, giving in to our temptations foregoing a diet or a session at the gym for a favourite meal and time in front of the TV.

Failure is soul destroying and kills our self confidence and can often lead to a vicious circle if we don't get control of our thoughts.

If you think of self discipline you tend to associate it with hard work, a strong mental attitude and a good deal of persistence and will power. We decide on our goals then set ourselves challenges and organise ourselves to get disciplined in achieving the results we are looking for. When we fail we look for alternative ways of getting what we want, the easier and the quicker the better.

The good news is that self discipline can be developed but lasting discipline starts with self knowledge and an inner desire to identify who we are and what we want from life.

As we build our self awareness and what prompts us to react in a certain way then we begin to develop our self discipline muscle.

As is often acknowledged within personal development circles, authentic sustainable success is an inner game. When we truly know ourselves we are in a far better position to make the required changes we are looking for.

When we begin to focus on our inner desires and form clarity on our purpose in life then self discipline takes on a whole new meaning to us. It becomes the path to true liberation as we self reflect we build conscious awareness and a greater clarity on what we really want.

Courage and commitment begin to move us forward fired with overwhelming passion, inspired creativity and an ability to find our voice we take actions that in the past we've found fearful and we develop the fortitude necessary to persist and realise our goals.

However, in order to get to a disciplined approach we first need to do exactly the opposite. In other words I'm advocating letting go rather than holding onto and trying to control everything.

Being in creative flow involves living in the moment and being open to inspiration, accessing and employing the use of our spirit rather than having to totally rely on hard work and will power which can be exhausting and often leads to burnout and high rates of failure. When we live for today we are open to possibilities and we are attentive rather than distracted and this brings ideas, which if we take the necessary action, leads to results. Learning to be spontaneous can bring utter joy and contentment to our lives, an excellent way to connect us with our spirits and accelerate our ability to manifest the results we are seeking.

As we learn to let go and get clarity on what is important we begin to become far more productive with our time and begin to appreciate that less is more'.

Self discipline can be fun, motivating and liberating as we adopt a more effortless way of living and take conscious control of our thoughts and behaviour.
