Generator Types

Generators can be classified in two different categories. They can be classified by fuel type and what they are used for. Generators are named after their use. For example home, portable and commercial are the common terms when referring to generators. Depending on the use and manufacturer of a generator will determine its fuel type and price.

Types of Fuel:

- Gas and Diesel: Most gas and diesel generators require to be filled manually. The gas must be stored in safety containers that are easily obtainable at any hardware store. Only homeowners who own a lot of land and have a permit may keep a large amount of fuel supply on their property. For example: Farms.

- LPG and Other Natural Gases: LPG and natural gas generators do not require manual filling by the homeowner. The filling must be done by a service. These generators can be more costly, however the elimination of having to fill the generator is usually worth it

Generators Uses:

- Home or Standby: These generators can be started immediately, because they are already hooked up to a fuel line and wired to the home. Most home generators must be kept on a cement slab.- Portable: Portable generators can be moved to any location that is suffering from a loss of power. They are less expensive, and easier to store, however, they run for shorter periods of time.- Commercial/Industrial: The Main difference between a commercial and a home generator is the amount of power supplied. Commercial or industrial generators provide a vast amount of power to businesses so their equipment can run without any problems during a power outage. Such businesses that typically have generators include hotels, hospitals, and casinos.http://www.articlesbase.com/home-improvement-articles/generator-types-3810534.html
