Closing a Project - what is the benefit of PRIINCE2?

How is a project closed?

As one project finishes, another begins. As once project begins, another finishes. So how can we enure that this handover is as smooth as possible? Well this is simply the job of the project manager and the project team to make this process happen. How do they do this and acheive the objectives outlined at the start of the project?

The truth is that only a handful of projects are actually completed to full potential and the only real way to ensure that a 100% handover and completion of the project are achieved is to do PRINCE2 Training. This methodology allows all members of the project team, including the project manager, to be singing from the same hymn sheet.

PRINCE2 Practitioners close a project in 3 ways:

Checking whether the project plan has been achieved and updating the project plan regularly. The acceptance criteria should also be met at the stage.

Handing over the project to the operational team.

Making sure that there is good communication between the project team and the business once the project is closed.

Sometimes a project is closes before it is completed

The project has to be closed in a controlled manor so that we can ensure that the work done on the project has not gone to waste. Senior management must check that the tasks left to complete the project are handed over correctly. These steps are necessary as no one likes to be associated with a failed project and thus the project managers has to portray all the positive aspects of the project.
