Distance Learning- A Double Edged Sword
Distance Learning- A Double Edged Sword

According to the American society for Training & Development, 90% of companies that have more than 500 employees will adopt e-learning training solutions in 2010. Many companies also subsidize their employee's education through tuition reimbursement plans. With 70% of Americans possessing less than a Bachelor's Degree, it is easy to understand why e-learning, or online education, has become so widely accepted and popular. Online education is more than just a technology used to transfer content and knowledge. It's a more meaningful revolution of study since online education means breaking the constraints of time and space. Through the internet, students can communicate with their professors and classmates that are a long distance away. With online course materials, students can study at any time and any place when they are available. For those with busy work and family obligations who can't study at fixed times, online education is the most convenient way to advance one's career and skill set. There are various online college programs. Many online schools provide the same classes as those with campus classes, and some are designed to provide a purely online curriculum or a blend of online and on-campus offerings. Since more and more online colleges have begun providing online education programs, the key is to determine which program is the right one for you. You need to compare online degrees using different criteria before you choose. Never choose a school just because the school promises you a degree quickly and it is less expensive- you will regret it. Online education can be a double-edged sword because there are good schools and not-so-good schools. For that reason, it's important to know what to look for and how to compare the alternatives. After doing your research, you will be in a better position to know whether it's the right choice for you. Choose wisely and you will benefit. Choose badly and you may waste your time and money.
