There are two basic types of diamond necklace: the full diamond necklace and the diamond pendant necklace. There are styles to suit every occasion with prices ranging from tens of dollars for a simple diamond pendants to thousands of dollars for a full diamond choker of the type often worn by brides on their wedding day.
Full diamond necklaces feature single or multiple diamonds which are attached or set in the links of a chain which encircles the neck. The diamonds can also be interwoven with the strands of gold or platinum forming the chain or set in such a way that they make up the links of the chain itself. Some of the full necklaces are quite dainty and consist of little more than a thin chain with one to three small bezel set diamonds at the center. Others such as the bib type necklace have a number of vertical strings of diamonds hanging down across the front. At the top end of the scale are the diamond choker necklaces which have multiple strands of diamonds fitting snuggly around the neck.
The second type of necklace is the pendant type for which a small piece of jewelry is hung from a separate chain. Because the pendant is not part of the chain it can be easily be transferred from one chain to another allowing both the style and length of chain to be varied with ease. There are many, many different types and styles of pendant and, because they generally contain fewer diamonds, they tend to be cheaper than a full diamond necklace.
