Habits die hard!
A habit has been defined
To put it in simple terms, a habit is a specific act done repeatedly by a person or even an animal to such an extent that the act becomes part of him or her and he/she does the act with or without awareness. The universe itself exist on a pattern of habits which the meta physicians call habit force that power which compels the habit to go on the planets in the solar system continue to move in their orbits; the moon continues to appear and disappear; day follows night; the seasons come and go. Such is the law of habit force.
In our everyday life, there are things which we do from day to day; same things always and always. Habits come in various forms which I can simply classify into two groups: good habits and bad habits. Good habits are usually taken for granted. No one complains about a good habit. People who follow good habits may not or may never receive any praise or commendation.
What habits are good and socially acceptable? Good manners; good behavior; punctuality; honesty; cleanliness; truthfulness and many more. There are times when certain good habits have been overdone and have also proved to be annoying and provocative. For example, reading and writing are good habits; love of hard work is another good habit; but when bookworms and work worms become so engrossed and obsessed in their reading and writing to the exclusion of everything else the goodness of the habits can became something else.
Generally, good habits make for progress. They promote good relationships. In a society where people, try to cultivate good habits, imagine what a great society that will be. There will be good physical health, good mental health and general social progress. Perhaps this will be a world of human beings!
Because human beings are at different stages of development, there will certainly be people who knowingly or unknowingly display habits that may be offensive. Many relationships and marriages break down as a result of negative habits practiced by their partners. When weighed on the scales, bad habits certainly outweigh the good ones. Can you name some of these negative habits?
Here I name a few: unclean rooms and kitchens; eating too much; drinking too much; overspending; buying things which serve no purpose; complaining over trifles; telling lies; playing hypocrisy; dodging responsibilities; cheating, stealing; etc. the list can go on and on.
Whereas good habits may be taken for granted, bad habits never fail to be noticed. Bad habits, once they have taken roots in a person's psyche cannot be easily shaken off. They die hard.
We all therefore have to watch and observe those habits which create conflicts between us and others and try as much as we can to get rid of them. It is a difficult task but with effort we can succeed.
