With use of soaker hose, through drip irrigation is the most effective approach to water a flower or vegetable garden. The water source is the place to begin a drip irrigation system. On the spigot, place a brass hose Y fitting. Currently, on the other end of the transfer barb, place blank 1/4" tubing. The blank tubing is rolled out to the base of the plant and then an emitter is inserted into the end of the tubing. Using soaker drip line on the other end of the transfer barb is another option. Soaker drip line is 1/4" tubing which has evenly spaced emitters built in the tubing. The soaker hose drip line is rolled out to the desired length and then closed off with a goof plug. Until all of the plants in the garden are able to get water from the drip irrigation system, the process of punching holes and inserting emitters or tubing into them needs to be repeated. The last step is to close the mainline tubing.
