WOW Mage Leveling & Quest Guide
WOW Mage Leveling & Quest Guide

Good going, you are playing a Mage in world of warcraft. If your new to the world of warcraft Mage you should find this information quite helpful. Here we will give a general overview of basic Mage leveling and some points on getting your Mage on it's way too the higher levels A.S.A.P.

The world of warcraft Mage is in many ways the same as in many other games. The Mage is typically weak in stature but strong in spell casting. The world of warcraft Mage fits this description, but the powerful magic available to the WOW mage makes it no slouch when it comes to battling foes.

As a Mage you should always avoid melee combat, the mage is just not designed for any form of hand to hand combat. The Mage can deal out incredible damage but without any self healing capabilities the Mage does not bode well under fire. Some great benefits that a Mage provides for their party are conjuring of food and water, they have awesome offensive spell casting skills and a really cool ability to teleport themselves and their party to world of warcraft capital cities.

Lets look at some traits of the available Mage races:

As I mentioned before, the Mage has no self healing abilities on its own so the draenei race is certainly a good one for the Mage as you will have Gift of the Naaru to use for healing.

Along the same lines as the draenei, the troll race is helpful with its regeneration ability, though not quite as effective as the Gift of the Naaru.

The blood elf is a popular race for the Mage with its Arcane Torrent and Arcane Affinity. Some say the blood elf makes for the best Mage but thats a matter of opinion.

The gnome makes a good Mage with its Expansive Mind to replenish mana and Escape Artist is very useful in getting out of sticky situations.

Humans specialize in the sword and mace which can't be used by the Mage so they make for a fair Mage at best.

The forsaken race only helps the Mage when battling a priest or warlock and little else so I don't recomend them unless you really want a challenge.

In the beginning, keep things simple for your character to make the first few levels a little easier to get through. For the first several levels simply get a feel of your character and what you are able to do. Do your best to only stay in combat for short periods of time.

Fight from a distance in the beginning using spells and long range weapons. But don't misinterpret this as just fooling around. Use this time to concentrate on completing quests and plenty of them. Double check each zone you are in to be sure that you have completed all the quests available.

Learn,learn,learn.

Be sure to learn as much as possible from your available trainer before moving on to another area of world of warcraft. Get some insight on which professions might work best for your chosen character. Professions research is important, don't ignore them. Some professions are very good money makers, use this early level learning time to think about how you will build your character into the powerhouse you want it to be. Just a little glimpse into the future, at level 20 you will be able to buy a mount making travel in world of warcraft much faster so start saving your gold ahead of time.

It has been said that the Mage is the easiest character class to level up but it all depends on how well you know your character. True the Mage is very frail and can't handle much damage but the Mage starts off with Fireball which is a very good range attack. To make leveling your Mage easier be sure to use the Frost Armor self buff to increase your defenses. When the Mage uses these two spells together it will make leveling go much faster.
