subject: Learning To Arrange Your Bedroom Furniture [print this page]

The most important furniture that you are likely to place in your bedroom is the bed. Therefore it is important that you follow certain rules regarding placement of bed in your bedroom. Here are a few general guidelines that you need to follow:

a) Traditionally people place their beds against the centre of the wall which is directly opposite the main entrance. When the bed is placed against the wall, the attention of the person entering the room is directed towards the bed. If for some reason you are unable to place the bed against the wall all across the door then you look for a wall which can accommodate the bed. So check the dimensions of your room and arrange the bed accordingly.

b) If you open the window frequently then don't place the bed under the window. You can, however, place your bed between two windows. If you don't open your windows then you can ignore this rule as placing the bed under the window will not cause any hindrance. Similarly, if your room is air-conditioned or heated all year then you can ignore this rule.

c) Ensure there is enough moving space after the bed is placed. Make sure the bed is not obstructing the opening of a door or a window.

d) You can opt for non-traditional arrangement of furniture in your bedroom. This will ensure there is more free space in the room which can be put to use.

e) If you have a huge closet you can free up space by placing the chest of drawers inside your closet. This will help to free up space in your bedroom which can be used to place items like computer table or a writing desk.
