Chief TomSaccenti has purchased a new radio repeater for the agencies portable radios. Saccenti was able to negotiate the original asking price down from over $12,000 to just over $4,000. Saccenti says, "My first day at the department, Central Dispatch called me. I was standing in my own office, picked up my portable radio to answer, and they couldn't hear me. I then began to travel around the village checking for dead spots. I found that over 25% of the time I could not get out on my portable. The officers that have been here for years say this is a common thing. For me, it was totally unacceptable. We ask these men and women to go out and put their life on the line every day for us, the least we could do is provide them with the equipment they need to get help. This has been my top priority and I am happy that we were able to accomplish this in such a short amount of time"
Officer Joseph Greer states, "This is why we like working for Chief Saccenti, he saw a true need, immediately addressed it, and we are now safer because if it. We have been trying to get a new repeater for years here in Pioneer, Chief Saccenti was the first person to do it".
Chief Saccenti states that he received no resistance from the town council, "They were great, I explained to them the problem and they immediately addressed it. They didn't hesitate or even question the need. We have great council people in this town, they truly care for their employees and would never put them in harms way".
