CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT.

It has been said that the teaching and learning process do not operate in vacuum. Certain planned experiences have to be provided in schools as well as in the colleges so that the maximum human development is possible. Those planned experiences are called as curriculum in modern era of education field. The term curriculum denotes the way through which the objectives of the education are targeted and achieved, which is the development of the whole man, knowledge, personality and the characters.

Concept of Curriculum : As the curriculum is tentatively considered as a synonym for the "the educational Programme. This programme is covers 1. The programme of studies. 2. The programme of activities. 3. The prgramme of guidance.

What is Curriculum? The word Curriculum is derived from the Latin word Curare', which means the race course or a run way, which takes to reach the goal. It is different from academic subjects. It covers the elements beyond the only teaching ; Class room teaching, laboratory work, library research, students activities, work shop etc. A group of subjects related with specific course with specific goal is called curriculum.

Features of Curriculum : 1. It is planned learning process2. It is a blue print for education. 3. It is the co-operative efforts of children and the teachers. 4. It is a developmental process which leads toward the full development of each individual.

Aims and objectives of Curriculum : As Curriculum is the set of total learning process there are certain aims and the objectives. They are; 1. It cultivates and inspires, motivate the full development of the students in the school and colleges. 2. It develops integrity, honesty, judgment and cooperation in the students. 3. It plays vital role towards the meeting the needs of students with a view of wide range of ability, aptitudes and interest.

Scope of Curriculum : As Curriculum is not only belongs to only teaching and learning process it has a wide scope in practical manner. The concept of Curriculum may be used in other relevant area like school staff, school routine, discipline, instructional equipments, building and grounds, laboratory, workshops and in numerous informal contacts between the teacher and pupils.

Development of Curriculum : Any Curriculum development process has to follow the several sequential steps. They are 1. Situation analysis. 2. Defining educational objectives. 3. Elaborate content areas. 4. Identifying the teaching methods and learning methods. 5. Developing prototype Curriculum materials. 6. Evaluating try out materials and revising Curriculum adoption.

Participants in Curriculum Development : Planning and Developing the Curriculum of education requires the main inputs (actions) by school, college, teacher, students, parents, business partners, administrators and the employees and last but not least the industrial experts. In addition to this we can say that there should be a cordial, mutual coordination between the school colleges and the industrial experts or industrialist. In continuous rapid, ever changing business environment it is essential that the students should be up-to-date, revitalize with the current, latest knowledge of the subject and the surrounding environment. At the same time they should be capable to cope up, to face the new challenges which they will face in real, practical life in physically as well mentally manner.
