I had to research baseball once for a paper in middle school. I didn't get the best grade, I think it was a B-, but I thought it was quite informative. I had no idea it would come in handy when I was an adult. I signed up to play baseball in a local league this year. I'm not a very good player, but my teammates and I were really playing just for fun. We figured we would play the best we could and then celebrate a win or a loss at our favorite local bar. They were our sponsor after all. I decided that I wanted to be the catcher for our team. Well, I didn't actually decide so much as I got elected. I quickly found out that there was a lot of catchers equipment. Hopefully this sport was not going to make me poor.
Catchers gear consists of items meant to protect you from the impact of the ball. For the most part, the baseball catchers gear doesn't really differ that much from softball protective gear. You would think that since mostly girls play softball, softball protective gear would have extra padding or something, but it doesn't. One item that baseball catchers gear has that softball protective gear doesn't need is the protective cup. That will definitely be part of my catchers equipment.
I was going to also need a catchers mask, chest protector, shin protectors, a catchers helmet, and a catchers glove for my catchers equipment. I used to always play with a Rawlings glove when I was a kid. I figured I'd check to see if they made a catchers glove I could use. A Rawlings glove is the official glove of the MLB after all, so I was sure they did.
So my catchers equipment search began on line. I found a lot of sites and a lot of different brands of catchers gear. I got the cup, the mask and the chest and shin protectors out of the way pretty quick. I had most of my catchers equipment. So far so good, I thought. Now I needed a catchers helmet and a catchers glove. I did find a Rawlings glove, so that made me happy. The catchers helmet proved to be the hardest part of the baseball catcher gear search. I looked on line and went to the store. Finally, I found one that I felt would protect my head good enough.
After considerable time, I had all the catchers gear I was supposed to have. I was prepared to play the game and the position. During the course of our local season, I was very pleased with my selection of baseball catchers gear. Others were struggling with some of their catchers gear. The helmet, the piece of catchers gear I spent the most time on, was giving everyone a hard time. I felt foolish taking so long selecting a helmet, but it paid off. I may not have been the best catcher, but I was the best at selecting baseball catchers gear.
