subject: Teaching English In Taiwan - Want A Change Of Pace? [print this page]

Are you slapped out of your nights sleep thanks to a screaming alarm? Maybe you wake up anxiously worrying that you might miss the train and have slept in? Teaching English in Taiwan has allows me a comfort that many people don't have and that is I wake up when I want to. Many people are used to waking up early with one of the first things to cross their mind is that they have to hurry or they might be late for work. Perhaps you want a change from this? If you don't like waking up worrying that you are late or you want more time to do things that are important to you, then perhaps teaching in Taiwan is just what you need. It isn't for everyone but for some people it offers the change of pace and life style that is important to you.

I really don't like the mornings. This doesn't mean I am lazy but getting up in the morning thinking I need to be at work soon isn't how I want to start my day. Being a teacher in Taiwan allows me to do this. The majority of teachers work afternoons and evenings. You'll find yourself usually finishing work at night, which frees up the mornings and usually afternoons to do what you want. Working nights isn't for everyone, but for me it gives me the time to follow or do things that interest me, outside of work. Truth be told, sometimes I just do nothing until it comes time for me to go to work, other days I'll be pursuing something that I am interested in. You'll have time to learn the Chinese language if that is what interests you. Perhaps you want to explore a different way of life and culture that is found here in Taiwan. Whatever it is that you want to do, teaching English gives you the opportunity to pursue it.

Most jobs, unlike English teachers in Taiwan, come with a certain level of stress. You normally have your boss or some higher up person keeping an eye on you. Sitting in your cubicle and having someone watching over my shoulder isn't how I want to spend my working hours. Teaching English, for the most part, is relatively stress free when compared to most other jobs or careers. As long as you do what you know you should do, you are left relatively unchecked. You won't have to try and sell something to people you know they don't want or need. You'll be rather surprised at just how much freedom you can have teaching English in Taiwan.

Teaching English in Taiwan definitely isn't something that is suitable for every person. Like any job or career, it takes a certain type of person to do it. However, if you are looking for a way to earn some money while still having enough time to pursue your personal interests then being an English teacher in Taiwan could be what you are looking for.
