Clamping Catastrophe

A motorist was clamped this week while still at the wheel, the Daily Mail has revealed this week. After having got lost, Jessie Martin pulled into a car park to turn around, while two vans from a local clamping firm pulled up and blocked her exit. They proceeded to approach her and told her to switch off the engine, and as soon as she did, they fitted a clamping device to the car. Miss Martin said that the clampers only put their identity badges on after they had clamped her car. She called both the police and her partner after the clampers told her if she didn't pay the fine, she would be towed, and charged a further eighty pounds for every half an hour that she didn't pay.

When her partner arrived, she was in a terrible state, feeling very intimidated and vulnerable. Mr Jenner said "One of the clampers said it was because she had switched off her engine -but that was only because they asked her to.'

The couple did not have the money to pay the fine, so the car was towed. Unfortunately in England there are no appeals procedures to combat these clampers, so we are being held hostage in our own country.

The car park where she turned is reserved parking for the flat block behind, but the sign to say clampers were present in the area had been spray painted over. Locals say it isn't the first time that the company have struck here, forcing money out of innocent Car Insurance customers.
