Hands-On With Samsung Continuum

Unlike other Samsung Galaxy smartphones that have a single display, the Samsung Continuum has two gorgeous AMOLED displays:the main display with 3.4" and the secondary one with 1.8". Although the main display is not as large as that of the other Galaxy phones, the images are sharper, clearer and have more saturated colors. So, we think the display is not a big issue since it is one of the best smartphones' touchscreens we have ever found to date.

For the secondary display, we initially guess that it is just a novelty item but after being more familiar with it, we found that it is very useful especially for easy multitasking. It offers straight conntection to social networks' sites like Facebook and Twitter and feed update of important information. Another positive point is that we save the battery's power since we don't have to wake up the main display when using the ticker.

Compared to the other Galaxy phones, the Continuum has almost similar features with the Fascinate. Both phones run on Android 2.1 Eclair, are powered by a 1GHz Hummingbird processor and a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash. However, for the later, Samsung has made some necessary improvements to get a better pictures' result like eliminating the haze found on the Fascinate.

Other important features include Samsung's TouchWiz 3.0 user interface, EVDO Rev. A for quick internet access, bluetooth, GPS, and integrated Wi-Fi.

Bottom line

Although the features are almost similar to those of other Samsung Galaxy phones especially the Fascinate, the Samsung Continuum comes with something different like the ticker and some improvements on the camera. But does it suit the need of the costumers? Lets see how it will perform?
