Mijas - The Jewell of the Costa del Sol

One of the first inland villages along the Costa del Sol to become popular with expats purchasing property was the white village of Mijas or Mijas Pueblo as it is known locally. It has even been used in numerous soaps and films, one of the latest being the BBC soap Eastenders.

Mijas itself is located about 430 meters above sea level and provides some of the most magnificent panoramic views of the Mediterranean coastline along the area known as Mijas Costa.

Miajs is both a tourist destination with regular coach trips arriving throughout the summer as well as home to around 7,500 residents of different nationalities.

Out and about in Mijas village you will notice that it is a typical Andalucian white village with cobbled streets and colourful plants brightening up the whitewashed houses.

Mijas Pueblo attracts an arty crowd and many artists have set up home in the village. There are numerous galleries and craft shops throughout the village and it is the ideal place to pick up a great souvenir.

Even despite all the comings and goings of the tourists Mijas Pueblo has managed to retain its typical Andalucian lifestyle and charm and being located just 15 minutes inland from the popular holiday resort of Fuengirola, it makes for a wonderful day out and somewhere to retreat to get away from the hustle and bustle of the coastal towns.

If you are staying on the coast then the best option is to drive to Mijas Pueblo. If you are in Fuengirola then you could take advantage of the bus service which runs regularly between the coast and the village.

The drive up the hill is actually not to bad as the road is well maintained and not too narrow, unlike the approaches to some of the other inland villages on the Costa del Sol.

From Malaga Airport Mijas is just 20 minutes drive and from most holiday resorts on the Costa del Sol it is within an hour.
