Diabetes is a non contagious disease. But it is chronic and deadly. It is most common disorder of the endocrine system. Endocrine system in the sense related to hormone system of the body. Diabetes is classified into two major types. They are.
Type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The signs and symptoms of both the types of diabetes are almost similar. But they differ in causes. Diabetes in mainly due to body not regulating insulin. Insulin is produced by the pancreas. Pancreas consists of four types of cells. They are collectively known as Islet of Langerhans. Among them the beta cells are responsible for secretion of insulin.
The food we eat is converted to sugar in the liver, and it is passed to different parts of the body through blood. The main function of insulin is to act as key and pass the glucose into cells of liver, fat and muscles where it can be used as fuels or energy.
Type 1 diabetes occurs when the body doesn't produces insulin, i.e. pancreas stop producing insulin. This is due to autoimmune system of the body which destroys the beta cells of the pancreas.
Type 2 diabetes happens due to the body produces low quantity of insulin or the cells not responding to the insulin produced by the pancreas this condition is known as insulin resistance. Due to this condition the body doesn't recognize insulin and do not use it properly.
The glucose remains in the blood and it is harmful for the body. It effects the functioning of cells. This condition is known as glucose toxicity.
Diabetes diagnosis is mainly by two tests, urine and blood test. In urine test there is content of sugar in the urine and blood test is of mainly three types and in all the three types the blood glucose level is high and above normal range.
Type 2 diabetes is mainly due to overweight and lack of physical activity. Obesity is the main cause and it is the main cause in the USA for diabetes. 95 percent who are diabetic are mainly due to obesity.
