A training programme developed by Property Consortium UK to give its employees an insight into building repairs has been accredited by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) for CPD purposes.
Property Consortium UK who provide a nationwide building network and service delivery centre for the insurance industry - has developed a series of 12 modules, aimed at giving all its employees an understanding of the major aspects of building repair, drainage and faults.
Each module is approximately one and a half hours long and ultimately builds up a bank of knowledge that supports staff making claim validations and provides the necessary knowledge to challenge suppliers.
Matt Brady, managing director of Property Consortium UK, said: "The idea behind the training is that if claims staff know how a building is put together, it helps them when they deal with claims where a structure has been damaged, for example due to the effects of a storm.
"Ultimately the course is designed to give our staff empathy with our suppliers, implement contractor control and target improvements to settling claims."
Matt added: "To maintain the high standards within our technical team, who work with the surveyors to reduce claim costs, we make it a requirement of the position to be CII qualified.
"The ability to accurately settle claims requires not just insurance knowledge, but a high standard of building construction and repair knowledge.
Tamsin Mills FCII, CII Director of Accreditation Services, stated, "The CII is pleased to recognise the excellent training programme provided by Property Consortium UK.
"This programme provides its employees with valuable knowledge to assist them in their roles.
"The bite-sized approach enables PCUK employees to combine learning with their regular activities and to assimilate this information in a staged manner. The expertise of the trainer and use of visual aids and other props enables desk-based employees to visualise materials and construction defects to better understand claims situations".
