subject: Exercising Your Wrinkles [print this page]

If facial exercising isn't already a large part of your skin care routine, it should be. One of the best ways to maintain the elasticity of the skin and avoid wrinkles is to keep it supple and toned. Facial exercises can tone your face the same way regular work outs can tone your arms, legs and tummy.

There are several different exercises you can perform for different areas of the face, to target specific wrinkle-prone areas. They are easily performed and you don't need any special equipment. In fact, you can do facial exercises while you are sitting on the couch watching television.

Exercising and toning the muscles in your face will not only keep skin from sagging, it helps stimulate the natural anti-aging production of collagen and elastin. These components help give your face its shape and form, and prevent laugh lines, crow's feet and brow creases from appearing.

Even if you already have some lines on your face, starting an exercise plan for your face will improve your appearance and strengthen the muscles. This in turn will pull the skin tighter and diminish the look of your wrinkles.

Some key elements to facial exercises are gentle movements that don't cause pain. Your face doesn't need to feel the burn of a workout. In fact, it shouldn't. You should also remember to wash your hands thoroughly before touching your face, as oils and dirt on your fingertips can transfer easily to your face and lead to breakouts.

If you're ready to get started, here's a simple exercise to tone the area around the mouth.

Hold your lips together gently. Place a finger on each corner of your mouth and gently stretch your mouth to each side. Then begin a series of smiles and frowns, pulling the corners of your lips up and down against the tension of your fingers.

Repeat this exercise for a few minutes each day to help alleviate frown lines that form around the mouth, and also strengthen cheek and jaw areas. This is just one of the many simple work outs that will keep your face wrinkle free and well toned.
