subject: Rid Yourself Of Split Ends [print this page]

Split ends in the hair are a common problemSplit ends in the hair are a common problem. The tips of the hair begin to fray, much like a piece of yarn. Left untreated, the split will move up the hair shaft all the way up to the root. Aside from being unhealthy for your hair growth, split ends are unattractive as it leaves the hair looking messy and unkept.

However, you can take control of your hair by healing and treating split ends.

Step one in reducing split ends is a regular visit to the salon to have your hair trimmed. However, if you're running behind schedule, an old folk remedy still works. Using a nail clipper to trim the very tips of your hair will clean up the split ends without changing the style. It's simple and quick, and will get you through until you can see a stylist.

While you are at the stylist for your six week trim, why not have your hair laminated as well? This treatment comes in the form of a hair mask and only takes about twenty minutes. The mask coats each strand of hair with a nourishing supplement that will mend the broken and frayed ends and reseal them to the hair shaft. Not only will this leave your hair sleek and smooth, but while it restores the look of your hair it also aids in the replenishment of vitamins and minerals.

Hair lamination can be done every six weeks to keep split ends from forming, and repairing any that have already occurred. It's safe, effective and doesn't take up very much of your time. You can also laminate on the go. Bottled hair laminator is applied in a spray, and offers the same type of benefits as a salon treatment, but it must be repeated more frequently, usually daily. However, if you need a quick fix for an evening out, the spray version can be a lifesaver to keep split ends under control.
