I woke up to a financial crunch a few days ago... unexpectedly: I have been spending too much money, and I had a lot of cancellations and slow times... I am sure I am not alone with this. As soon as I figured out the bottom line I felt despair came down on me. It was actually familiar. I have been stressed out, on and off for 60 years now. The only thing that has changed is my mindset toward my depression. I today have a little elbow room, a slight change in viewpoint to look at it: I have it, it does not have me. The thing to do when you are in a financial crisis is to generate more income... but depression creates a special circumstance: your view is obstructed and all you can view is no possibility.
I compare that with being in a deep well, a real hole in the ground.
You are standing on the bottom level of it and there is nothing else but dirt that towers above you. All that would be actions that you can do, new sources of revenue, new activities to generate revenue, are not viewable from this place. The thing to do when you find yourself in a position like this (I know many of my clientele know what I am saying here, so maybe you can too?) is
1. acknowledge the situation,
2. utilize something that changes your viewpoint. I say in a soothing voice to myself "You can do it" and after that glance around for evidence that there are some things I can do.
Let me talk to you about your vision here: it is very essential to comprehend what you are able to do.
Some 14 years ago I was recommended to get eye-training from a behavioral optometrist. Most of us have no clue that we might use our eyes improperly, to our detriment. Some phobias, like agoraphobia (fright of wide open areas) or claustrophobia (fear of tight places) are well known, and they are all a consequence of an inappropriate use of the eyes. During the eye exam they discovered that in addition to being dyslexic, I also suffer from improper, fear-based vision usage: when harassed or worried, I narrow my cone of vision to very very very narrow. That means that only about a size of 3-4 feet I can see sharply and in color, the rest is in gray-scale... Anything that is in the gray occurs even more intimidating, so this is a worsening condition. The training consisted, primarily, of flashing my eyes out to incorporate increasingly more of the environment in my cone of vision.
What does this have to do with you and with being in a monetary crunch?
I think, potentially everything. When you are in a narrow cone of vision mode, you cannot see the overall picture. Anything that is shiny or promising sufficiently, looks a adequate justification to spend money, download, read, watch. At the same time, your main goal suffers. Making a living, marketing, system, are part of the big picture, and they get no consideration until the stuff hits the fan: you can't meet your expenses, etc. Another typical feature of this eye condition is neglecting the main revenue, maybe even resigning one's job, without having an equal or better source of income already working.
When the stuff hits the fan, the first impulse of the afflicted is to find a new, fast, quick and easy source of revenue... one of those magic bullets.
Unfortunately, no matter what anyone says, expert or not expert, instant solutions don't exist. When a expert, or a non-afflicted internet marketer intends to make some extra income, they use 90% of their normal foundational strength, like their well-managed subscriber list, and either re-launch an earlier product, or launch a product new and proven to convert with that list, something at a very very appealing price that only takes a few hours to put together. These options are not accessible to a newbie marketer, so the beginner marketer needs to get the well-known rule: It is too late to dig a well when you are thirsty. In my circumstance, instead of putting all my energies to quickly launch a new product that has never been tried, and likely will fail... my task is to put a little Tlc into my already established sources of income, and whip up some extra profits from there to fill in the holes.
What am I trying to say?
Don't bank on your brand new internet marketing venture: it is very hard to produce rational healthy thoughts and strategies under duress. Make sure you have an alternate revenue source. If you must, take a employment, freelance, but don't attempt to create an internet marketing business in a week or two when you have no money to pay for your life.
