subject: Directv And Its Issues [print this page]

DirecTV once a leader in satellite TV provider and now one of the most complained-about providers in the United States of America has reached a settlement for all its wrongdoings with all 50 states and the District of Columbia on a pool of consumer protection issues that include its tarnished cancellation penalties. The company has, no doubt, agreed to pay about $13 million and conform to a collection of rules of conduct based on varied ways of treating consumers righteously.

The Better Business Bureau has reported that over the last 3 years, it has received 53000 complaints against DirecTV and its malpractices. Strangely, the company has forgotten to go about dealing in a fair manner. It has foregone basic ethics and principals of doing business and resorted to different advertising and other scams, which have adversely affected the common man. With each passing day, grievances against the provider are mounting up.

In 2009, Attorney General of Washington sued DirecTV and stated that based on 2009 reports, the provider was the lone largest source of complaints. With a 1 million dollar payout to AG McKennas office, the company settled terms with Washington. On December 15, 2010, the company agreed to settle with forty-eight State Attorney Generals and resolve charges related to deceptive and unfair business practices. And as of 2011, DirecTV is ordered to settle disputes by paying around $13 million to Attorney Generals of 50 states and restitute victims in full. However, as a customary act of the company in settlements, it did not admit any wrongdoing.

For all the victims of DirecTV post January1, 2007, you are eligible to receive compensation from the company in your state, which is included in the settlement. Residents of California, who are misled by unethical practices of DirecTV can file suit against the company by June 9, 2011 in the office of Attorney General. You can call them at 916.322.3360, or even visit their website at www.ag.ca.gov/consumers/general.php. However, for people who are non-residents of California, will have to immediately contact Attorney General in their state and claim their restitution, if at all they are eligible for it.

Whether it is for hidden fee dispute, deceptive practices, faulty advertisements, or goofing up subscriber database, you can expose satellite TV providers malpractices straight in the face and if you fall under the compensation process, then can claim it right away. The States AGs and Better Business Bureau is in favor of victims and is ready to take any action to rectify the wrongdoings of these satellite TV providers with immediate effect.
