Three Features in A Laptop That You Can't Do Without

Buying a laptop seems like the most trivial matter. All you have to do is pick the one that has the best price, right? Well, this could help the pocket a little but it won't do much for your productivity. So how should you pick a laptop?

There is one way to go about it and it's to see if all the features you need are on the laptop. Andn his is the problem. A lot of people do not know what it is about the laptop that they can't live without.

A laptop has all sorts of features. Not all laptops have the same package. The rule is that the cheaper it is, the less it has. But if you spend too much, you might end up not using many of the features on the laptop itself. Here are three essential things that you should have on your laptop to help you get started on your computer purchase quest.

It has to be connected. These days, people rely on the internet for so many things. They send their work documents through email, chat with their friends online, share music, share files, sync their contacts, pay their bills through online banks, etc. In fact, you are more than likely to buy a laptop for its connection capabilities above all else. So make sure that the laptop has at least one of three things: a WIFI adapter so you can connect to the Internet wirelessly, a port that allows you to have a hard-wired connection for DSL, or a 3G adapter so that you can use a cellular 3G network to get online.

It has to have capacity. Bill Gates once said that 64kb was all the world would ever need. But these days, people are dealing in terabytes! With all the rich media items recorded on your digital camera, video camera, or whatever other device you own, you will need to store them. So what your laptop needs (if you don't have a PC for all your digital things) is a huge hard drive. Many laptops now pack at least 80 to 120 gig right out of the box. But don't be surprised when you find yourself craving for 500 gigabytes or even a terabyte in the future. It's a cheap investment and you'll love the extra space for all those movies you purchased online.

It needs ports. Again, you might own other things aside from the extra mouse and possible extra keyboard. Laptop peripherals are almost always USB-based so make sure that you have enough USB ports on your new laptop. 4 or 5 should do the trick. A fire-wire port is always useful to have and perhaps just one serial port for one of those old-school printers you might come across on your mobile journey.

So are you ready to buy a laptop? Make sure it has the aforementioned items and you should be set to go. And one more thing, it's always good to invest on something that is branded and not generic. That way, the resale value of your laptop won't depreciate as fast as something that is unknown on the market.
