Hotel Workouts

You can make any space your mobile gym while traveling. Just because you don't have the equipment, doesn't mean that you have to disregard your health while you are sleeping in a hotel room. There are many exercises that can be done within the walls of your hotel room or hostel that will keep you in shape.

Push ups are an exercise that is simple in theory but difficult in execution. They are avoided by women and often done incorrectly by men. They provide a good workout for your arms, chest, back, and most other muscles in the rest of your body. Push ups are good to do in conjunction with other exercises, as they are difficult for most people to do for over about a minute without having to take a break. It is best to begin measuring how many push ups you can do in a minute, and try to gradually increase that number everyday.

Planks are another good workout for upper body strength. They are an isometric exercise, based on maintaining a resistance to your own muscles, and require no movement. This makes it a helpful exercise to know, especially when staying in even the smallest of places. It is best to think of the plank position as similar to the push up position. You support your weight with your elbows rather than your hands, and your elbows should form a 90 degree angle between your upper and lower arms. When you begin to slouch your back and your head begins to drop, that is a sign of fatigue and you should continue your workout after a small break.

A good workout for your legs and abs is kicking your knees up. Soccer players are often seen doing this as a warm up routine because knee kicks are also a cardio workout for your body, and they produce endorphins and adrenaline. To kick your knees up correctly, stand upright, and then bringing your knee up to your body at a 90 degree angle. Alternate kicking your right and left knees up continuously and you can burn about 16 calories per minute doing this exercise.

A cardio workout that is often not thought of as a workout at all is dancing. The only way to make dancing your workout is to time yourself and be sure that you are in motion for at least 30 minutes. If you are serious about dancing as a cardio exercise, it can help you burn about 7 calories every minute. To add variety to the workout and to make your body work harder and burn more calories, try dancing on your bed or couch if you can. The soft surfaces will make your body work harder to balance itself, which will make it burn more calories.

Working out in your hotel room may make it seem as though you are not getting a real workout. If you do these exercises correctly however, you can break a sweat and burn plenty of calories. Hotel room fitness adapts to your schedule and to the space you are given.
