There are so many films out there, especially on the film festival circuit, about parents who are suffering from the loss of their child and many time they can get overwrought and melodramatic, but Mitchell was able to keep these things reigned in. He's also brought back the Nicole Kidman we once loved, and Best Movies Ever heard that Mitchell's big instructions for the actress was to keep it natural (we're assuming her face) and this works great for her. Aaron Eckhart is in one of his best roles since Eric Brockovich, and Rabbit Hole should garner a few acting nomination for the two stars. It's not a great film, but it's definitely award worthy.With Rabbit Hole, it feels like Mitchell and writer David Lindsay-Abaire watched all the Lifetime/Oxygen/WE families in mourning movies and learned how to not mess it up. That's actually how we at Best Movies Ever have learned how to make movie too! What seems like a conventional movie is far from it and John Cameron Mitchell brings out the best in Nicole Kidman, Aaron Eckhart and Dianne Wiest. It's all about the subtlety here and Kidman and Eckhart are able to do their best acting while appearing to keep it simple, but man, nothing in this film is simple.
Rabbit Hole will probably be that sleeper film that comes out just before Christmas on December 17, 2010 but should garner a few nominations. It's a shame they couldn't have released this in September to platform and let word of mouth work it magic as this is that kind of film.

John Cameron Mitchell has matured into a very fine director and brought Nicole Kidman back to forefront of acting while showing us again how good Aaron Eckhart can be in this quieter roles.
