subject: The Legendary Vw Transporter Van [print this page] Volkswagen has been producing the Transporter van for 60 years; the Volkswagen Transporter has earned the title of being one of the longest running, most iconic and durable vans ever. Over 10 million Transporter vans have been produced and it has reinvented itself through five generations to become one of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles' best-selling models in the UK.
The latest version of the VW Transporter has won the Best Small Van category in the What Van? awards for 2011. Its smaller sibling, the new Volkswagen Caddy, was also highly commended in the Light Van category.
The new VW Transporter is not new to awards, the What Van? award was its fourth one. It has already been awarded Medium Panel Van of the Year, Best Medium Van and Standard Panel Van awards from Fleet Van, Van Fleet World and iVan magazines, respectively. VW Vans in Edinburgh also commented on the high level of interest it has received from people enquiring about the new Transporter van.
The editor of What Van? Paul Barker said, 'The Volkswagen Transporter underwent a significant refresh early in 2010, and it was enough to promote it to the top of the class. Excellent engines, cabin and a great drive add up to a winning combination, so the new Transporter is easy to recommend.'
In addition to the revised exterior styling, the new Transporter also offers better value for money with improved specification and additional safety features, including ESP and daytime running lights as standard. The new Transporter now comes with a more refined 2.0-litre TDI common rail engine range with Euro5 emissions and lower running costs thanks to better fuel economy and extended service intervals.
