Do You Need To Pay For Data, Internet, Or Web For The Sciphone i68?

I recently received an email in which the writer asked if it was required that you have a data plan or web usage for the SciPhone i68. It certainly isn't required. There are many things that you will be able to do without one. But, for the best user experience, you may want to obtain at least some web usage, which I will explain in the following article.

The phone is going to work fine without data. Without it, you will be able to talk, text, and send picture messages and videos. Also, you can get a java email program that will let you check your email via SMS rather than having to use the web. So, data is not going to required for many of the features of this phone.

But, if you want to update Facebook and Twitter and browse any other web pages like YouTube and others, you are going to need data for this. I know that people are always on forums asking if opera mini means that you don't need web usage, don't have to pay for it, or can get it for free. But, at least in my experience, even opera mini doesn't work without it. You're just going to keep getting error messages if you don't have data access.

With that said, there is nothing that says you need to have a "data plan." What I mean by that it that you don't necessarily need to have a reoccurring contract where you're paying the same high monthly month each time even if you don't use this much. You can use all GSM sim cards that work and are activated. Many pay as you go carriers will allow for you to buy web usage per KB or MB. Or, you can buy a bundle from whatever carrier you are using that will sometimes make things a bit cheaper.

Also, there are now "all inclusive" no obligation sim cards which will often include data, talk, text, and email (if applicable) for a low rate. These typically expire after 30 days. But sometimes you can set it to automatically renew and other times, you can just purchase another depending on which type you buy. In this instance, you can use the other sim slot to keep the sim which houses your never changing phone number where you receive calls.

The thing is, these large touch screen phones just sort of beg for web usage. The SciPhone i68 is no exception. That doesn't mean that it's required. But you should know that obtaining data really doesn't have to be expensive. You can usually buy only what you need but can have it available when you need it. But, if you're a heavy user, you can usually get cards that are very inexpensive and include most anything. Don't let not having a data plan or package keep you from being able to browse the web on this phone, if that's something that would be useful to you.
